5 Training

The courses of Instructions consisted of Squad and company drill, musketry exercises, Bayonet Fighting, shirmishing and outposts. A course of lectures was given by the Inspecting Officer, Lieut.Colonel

Route A.V.Alexander to the Artillery Battery and Infantry units.

marches have been held from time to time.

Gun Practice

Two practices with the 10 pr. B. L. guns were carried out on 30th. April and 18th June, 1916, by the Artillery Battery.

The Belchers 6" Section fired the undermentioned practices at Belchers and Stonecutters Batteries;-

Sub-calibre practice on 29.10.16 and 21.1.17. Half charge 6" B. L. on 5.11.16 and 28.1.17.

Engineer Company

This Company has continued to provide an average of three Officers and 30 men nightly on the Defence Electric Lights at Belchers Fort, Stonecutters and Lysemun. The strength of this company has increased during the year and 45 N.C.0s. and men from other units have volunteered to do D.E.L. duitė duties with it, consequently the strain on individual members is somewhat lighter than heretofore.

Machine Gun Commany Units and Scouts Commany

The Centre Section of the Machine Gun Company and a section of the Scouts Company fired Table "C" of the machine gun course.

Cadet Commany

Lieut. C. Smith was granted leave for the duration of the war from

22nd. March, 1917.

Mr. J.E.W.Beard was appointed Temporary 2nd. Lieut. in this company

on 16th. March, 1917.

This unit now numbers one officer and 70 Cadets.

Drills and Field Days have been held regularly and the boys were instructed in swimming during the summer months.

The Annual Camp was held at Dome Hill from 3rd. to 13th. January 1917 inclusive, during which the Hospital duties were undertaken by lady members of the V.A.D. St. John Ambulance Association. The Camp was visited by His Excellency the Governor and Lady May,
